157th New York Infantry (Second Monument)

Location: Howard Avenue at intersection of the Mummasburg Road near Gettysburg College.

Description: Sarcophagus-like monument of Oak Hill granite with gabled cap, sits atop a two-tiered base. The monument marks one of the positions taken by the 157th New York Infantry in the 11th Corps line before being forced to retire on the afternoon of July 1, 1863. It was erected by surviving members of the regiment. It is located where the regiment first held on the extreme left of the 11th Corps line on July 1, 1863.
