Location: East side of Slocum Avenue. It marks the position held by five companies of the 1st Maryland Eastern Shore Regiment on the morning of July 3, 1863.

Description: Rectangular, horizontal monument with rough-hewn edges stands on a low base. On the front face is a relief of an infantryman lying behind a temporary fortification and holding his rifle in combat-ready position. There is a 12th Corps star above his head. A tondo with the State Seal is affixed to the back, between the two columns of text. Erected by the State of Maryland, the monument is one of 6 honoring Maryland troops who participated in the Gettysburg campaign and one of 85 with granite reliefs. The memorial cost $1,000.00.
