Location: East side of Slocum Avenue near Spangler’s Spring. It indicates the position where the regiment engaged soldiers of Steuart’s Confederate Brigade on the morning of July 3, 1863.

Description: Vertical monument stands on a tiered and rough-hewn base. The piece has an ornate cap which is topped with the 12th Corps star and bayonet. Other decorative elements on top include a belt, cartridge box and four bedrolls. A round Seal for the State of Maryland in relief appears on the front face. Monument is a multi-part granite shaft capped with bedrolls around a corps star symbol and set on a 4.3 foot square rough cut base. The shaft has polished finish and smooth cut incised inscriptions, a bas-relief, and a bronze medallion. Overall height is twelve feet. Flanking markers are one foot square.

The monument was damaged in 1894 and repaired in 1902.
