Dedicated: Sept. 14, 1887.
Location: West Howard Avenue, several hundred feet from Carlisle Road. Erected by the State of Ohio, the monument marks one of the positions taken by Dilger’s Battery I, 1st Ohio on the afternoon of July 1, 1863 as they dueled with Confederate batteries of Jones’ Battalion and Reese’s Battery.
Description: Vertical tapered monument stands on a rough-hewn base. The finial represents a canister shot. Base is 5.3 foot square of rough-cut stone with an excised polished inscription. Overall height is 13.2 foot.
