Company A – Capt. Noah Jones (1840-1902) – Attached to Third Division.

Company C – Capt. Samuel N. Stanford (ca. 1837-1871).

Numbers: 85; No loss.

Raised: Fayette County.

Dedicated: Sept. 14, 1887.

Location: Near Hummelbaugh Farm, west of Taneytown Road. The 1st Ohio Cavalry troops provided dispatch bearers to the various headquarter commands on the field during the battle, especially to Gregg’s and Kilpatrick’s Divisions. This monument is located near the site of Pleasonton’s headquarters. The other companies of the 1st Ohio served in the Army of the Cumberland; the companies in the Eastern Theater eventually joined the rest of the regiment in the spring of 1864.

Description: Tiered marker with apex cap bears a relief of a horse’s head beneath crossed swords. Partially enclosed on three sides by a War Department era board fence.
