Dedicated: July 3, 1888. Relocated ca. 1890.

Location: Bushman Woods, south of South Confederate Avenue, southwest of Big Round Top It indicates the position of the 5th New York Cavalry on July 3, 1863 when supporting Elder’s Battery B, 4th U. S. Battery.

Description: Monument is a rough hewn Westerly granite shaft with a flat top and set on a 7.6×4 foot rough hewn base. The shaft contains a sculptured granite relief of a mounted cavalryman, bronze corps insignia, state seal, and raised letters on the north. The shaft has a bronze tablet with insignia on the south. Overall height is 9.5 feet. Sculptured by Casper Buberl. Flanking markers are one foot square. The monument is mounted upon a native boulder. The piece was originally located elsewhere in the park on what is said to be “ground occupied by the Confederates.” It was moved to its current location about 1890, at the request of veterans.
