Location: It is located on the west side of Doubleday Avenue south of the intersection with Robinson Avenue. It indicates the position held by the regiment during the afternoon of July 1, 1863 when they aided in the repulse of Iverson’s Confederate Brigade. It was the third New York monument erected at Gettysburg and the first to a regiment recruited from New York City.
Description: Obelisk stands on double base. It is comprised of alternating smooth-faced white granite and rough-hewn red granite. Relief elements include the First Corps insignia and a New York State Seal. The work is topped with an open-winged eagle. Flank markers have apex tops. This monument cost $6,000.00 and was dedicated at a very large ceremony on July 1, 1888.
