Bryan Farm

The Bryan Farm is located along what is today Hancock Avenue, just south of Ziegler’s Grove. It was the home to Abraham Brian (often spelled Bryan, including by the NPS), an African-American, his wife Elizabeth, and their five children. Brian was born in Maryland in 1804 and moved to Gettysburg in 1840. The farm was 12 acres.

The house served during the battle as Alexander Hays’ headquarters. Brian sold the farm in 1868, died in 1875, and is buried in Gettysburg. The farm is owned by the National Park Service and is unoccupied.
