One of five cavalry brigades in Stuart’s Division of the Army of Northern Virginia.
Commander: Brig. Gen. William E. “Grumble” Jones (May 9, 1824 – June 5, 1864). USMA 1844; professional soldier. Killed leading a charge at the Battle of Piedmont.
Strength: 232.
Losses: Losses not reported. Most of the brigade was at Fairfield, with only the 35th Virginia Battalion on the Gettysburg battlefield.
