One of four infantry brigades in Early’s Division of Ewell’s Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia.

Commander: Col. Isaac E. Avery (December 20, 1828 – July 3, 1863). Prewar attorney; killed on July 3, 1863. Best remembered for a blood-stained note: “Major, tell my father I died with my face to the enemy.”
