One of four infantry brigades in Heth’s Division of Hill’s Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia.

Commander: Brig. Gen. James J. Archer (December 19, 1817 – October 26, 1864). Marylander; lawyer and professional soldier. Archer was captured on the first day of the battle of Gettysburg. Exchanged in late summer of 1864, he died of illness in Richmond.

Losses: 684; 69 killed, 219 wounded, 396 missing.
