One of four infantry brigades in Pender’s Division of Hill’s Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia.

Commander: Brig. Gen. James H. Lane (July 28, 1833 – September 21, 1907). He was a professor at VMI and the NC Military Institute. After the war, he was an engineering professor at Virginia Tech, and later what is now Auburn University in Alabama.

Losses: 792; 178 killed, 376 wounded, 238 missing.
