One of two artillery battalions that made up the Artillery Reserve of Longstreet’s Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia. This battalion was known as “The Washington Artillery.”

Commander: Major Benjamin F. Eshelman (Mar. 9, 1830-July 6, 1909). Born in Lancaster, PA to a Mennonite family, but was working in a hardware store in Louisiana at the start of the Civil War; served at the war in New Orleans as president of the board of trade.

Strength: 338

Losses: 30; 8 killed 11 wounded, 3 missing.
