First Brigade (Gamble) – This Deathless Field

One of three brigades in Buford’s Division of the Cavalry Corps.

Commander: Col. William Gamble (1 January 1818 – 20 December 1866). Born in Ireland; professional soldier in British army before immigrating to Illinois. He rose to the rank of brigadier general and died en route to his post war post in San Francisco on a ship in Nicaragua.

Losses: 99; 13 killed, 58 wounded, 28 missing.
