Second Division

One of three divisions in the Fifth Corps of the Army of the Potomac.

Commander: Brig. Gen. Romeyn B. Ayres (December 20, 1825 – December 4, 1888). Professional soldier from New York; USMA 1847. Colonel of artillery after the War and died on active duty at Fort Hamilton.

Strength: 4,013

Losses: 1,029; 164 killed, 802 wounded, 63 missing.
