One of three brigades in Hays’s Division of the Second Corps. Also known as the Gibralter Brigade.

Commander: Col. Samuel S. Carroll (September 21, 1832 – January 28, 1893). Native of Maryland; professional soldier, USMA 1856. He reached the rank of brigadier general and remained in the post-war army.

Losses: 211; 38 killed, 166 wounded, 7 missing.
