Commander: Col. Lewis A. Grant (January 17, 1828 – March 20, 1918). Teacher and lawyer from Vermont. Reached the rank of brigadier general. Assistant U.S. Secretary of War under Benjamin Harrison. Medal of Honor winner at Chancellorsville.
