Commander: Brig. Gen. Thomas H. Ruger (April 2, 1833 – June 3, 1907). Born in New York; USMA 1854. Left the army to become an attorney in Wisconsin. Post-War military governor of Georgia and superintendent of West Point, where he is buried.

Strength: 1,598.

Losses: 279; 49 killed, 255 wounded, 5 missing.
