George George House
The George George house is located at 237 Steinwehr Avenue (Emmitsburg Road) near the intersection with the Taneytown Road. George was a day laborer. The house likely dates to the late 18th or early 19th century.
As the wooden plaque denotes, this house is most famous for holding General John Reynolds‘ body for a time on July 1. From here, Reynolds’ body was sent south along the Taneytown Road; he was eventually buried on July 4 in his hometown of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Today, this structure is privately owned and the home of Olde Tyme Photos studio.
