Georgia State Monument

Dedicated: Sept. 21, 1961.

Location: West Confederate Avenue near Warfield Ridge.

Description: A shaft, with Georgia State seal and commemorative text, set on two-tiered lower base, atop stone base. It is located on Warfield Ridge at the point where Semmes’ Georgia Brigade formed on the afternoon of July 2, 1863. It was from here that Brigade launched their attack on the Wheatfield, Devil’s Den, and the Round Tops. The monument consists of Georgia blue granite. Georgia erected identical memorials on the battlefields of Gettysburg and Antietam. Identical inscriptions and carving on West and East faces, the word “Georgia” at top, State seal and dedicatory inscription. The monument was designed by Harry Sellers.
