Leister Farm
Also known as Meade’s headquarters. The Lydia Leister farm is located along the Taneytown Road near the intersection with Hunt Avenue. James Leister died in 1859, and his wife Lydia lived here with their six children. Lydia and her two daughters fled when the battle approached. When they returned, seventeen dead horses littered the property and the farm was destroyed. Leister rebuilt the farm, eventually selling it to the Gettysburg Battlefield Memorial Association, which leased it until 1933. It is unoccupied and currently part of the NPS.
The Lydia Leister Farm is Union Hospital #2 on the Adams County Historical Society’s field hospital tour.
