Loys Station Covered Bridge

The beautiful Loys Station Covered Bridge is located near the mountain town of Thurmont, Maryland. Constructed in 1848 across Owen’s Creek, General Meade and part of the Army of the Potomac crossed here in pursuit of Lee on July 7, 1863.

On June 27, 1991, the original bridge was destroyed by arson as part of an insurance fraud scheme. In 1994, it was reconstructed by the community.

The Loys Station Covered Bridge is located about 30 minutes south of Gettysburg. Take US-15 south and exit at the Old Frederick Road (Maryland Route 99). While in the area, the 1834 Utica Covered Bridge over the Monocacy River is located close by, while the Roddy Road Covered Bridge is located to the north.
