Commander: Lt. Charles A. Atwell (ca. 1840-Oct. 28, 1863).

Numbers: Six 10-lb Parrotts, 139 men. 3 wounded.

Raised: Philadelphia; Allegheny County.

Dedicated: Oct. 1897.

Location: Powers Hill, north of Granite Schoolhouse Lane. It indicates the position held by Winegar’s Battery M on the evening of July 2, 1863. It indicates the position held by Knap’s Battery when they opened fire about 3:30 A. M. on July 3, 1863 to initiate the fighting on the Culp’s Hill front. There is evidence that two cannons once flanked this piece, as there are stones for a wheel and a trail.

Description:  Sculpture is crafted in the form of a cannon. The center form is square and it is flanked by two rounded forms on which is sculpted the hub and spokes of the wheels. The barrel of the cannon rests in the center. A square relief of the State Seal is affixed to the front.
