Shealer Farm
The Martin Shealer Farm was one of the oldest farms in Adams County and is located at the southeast corner of the Hunterstown and Shealer Roads. Shealer was away in the service of the 165th Pennsylvania during the battle.
The farm was used as a hospital by the Confederate army, likely Johnson’s Division. At least 44 soldiers were buried on the farm. Most of the men were members of the 37th Virginia and the 1st and 3rd North Carolina regiments.
The pictured barn was built on the site of the original barn, which dated to 1818, and was torn down in the 1930s.
