The Monuments and Memorials of the Gettysburg Campaign
Union Mills
Union Mills, near Westminster, Maryland, dates to 1797 when two brothers, Andrew Shriver and David Shriver, Jr., built a set of mills along Big Pipe Creek.
During the Gettysburg Campaign, Union Mills was a stopping point for Jeb Stuart’s cavalry as it traveled towards Gettysburg. Hours after Stuart departed, General James Barnes, commander of the 1st Division of the 5th Corps, set up his headquarters in the house.
