Weikert Farm (Jacob Weikert)

The Jacob Weikert Farm is located on the west side of the Taneytown Road near the intersection with what is now Sachs Road. This was one of the largest and most important hospitals in the area. The Second, Third, and (especially) Fifth Corps used this farm as a hospital from approximately July 1 through July 5. General Stephen Weed, Colonel Patrick O’Rourke, and Lieutenant Hazlett were all brought here after they fell on Little Round Top. Wounded Confederates were also brought here, including members of the Texas Brigade.

The 102 acre farm is a private residence and remains almost completely intact and beautifully preserved with a stone house and large bank barn.

This is Union Hospital #8 on the field hospital tour.
