Also known as the Althoff Farm, this property was owned by John T. Weikert, a Journeyman Carpenter, one of many farmers with that surname. The buildings were constructed between 1870-1880. The Gettysburg Battlefield Memorial Association acquired this property from Francis A. Althoff and it was eventually turned over to the NPS.
The census reports that Weikert lived here with his wife Sarah. Although the farm buildings did not stand during the battle, the farm lane is historic and was crossed by Vincent’s Brigade on its way to Little Round Top. The farm was also the spot held by Wheaton’s Brigade which today has it’s monuments along the farm lane.
Like several Gettysburg area men, Weikert served in the 138th Pennsylvania, which was not at Gettysburg. He was wounded at Mine Run, Virginia on November 27, 1863, and discharged in 1865.
